Model
080 Corner Wrap Applicator
This applicator will apply a label to the front and side panel of a product.
As the product passes the product sensor the label will feed out onto
the vacuum grid. The label is fully dispensed before the product makes
contact with the applicator. As the product continues through, the applicator
pivots around the corner of the product wiping down the side panel.
This type of applicator
is normally designed to operate with a specific size label. This label
position can be slightly adjusted by moving the labeling head toward
or away from the product.
The vacuum is created
by the use of a hi-volume vacuum fan to prevent clogging of the vacuum
system associated with dusty environments.
A positive drive
of the product is required for optimal applicator performance. A belted
or rough top type conveyor is us typically used. If a product is light
in weight, a passive or active top hold down accessory may be installed
to assist.

Model 082 Corner
Wrap Side/Trailing Panel
Some applications call for the label to be applied on the side and trailing
panel corner when the box cannot be stopped. The Model 071 straight
tamp is used to apply the side panel first. After the label is initially
applied, a secondary roller installed on an air cylinder will stoke
in at an angle approximately 45 degrees to the box flow. This roller
wipes the label down on the trailing panel. What factors are used to
determine which type is best?
- Roll form requirements
of the label
- Required orientation
of the labeling head
Size of label to
application area. For products that offer minimal clearance, the tamp
style is better.

Two Stage Tamp
Type (Model 081/Model 084)
This type of corner wrap applicator requires the product to be momentarily
stopped at the application point. The label is fully dispensed away
from the web backing and held on to the two pads by vacuum. Each pad
is mounted to its own air cylinder. One cylinder is longer than the
other. During the application sequence, both tamps extend to the product
together. Contact is first made by the short stroke cylinder to the
side of the product. The long stroke cylinder continues wiping the remainder
of the label to the leading (or trailing panel) of the product. The
Model 081 utilizes a venturi type vacuum for labels up to 6"(f) x 4"(w)
and the Model 084 utilizes a hi volume vacuum for labels up to 12"(f)
x 5"(w).
Advantages:
- Can better adjust
for skew associated with irregular products
- Can be 1/2"
or higher above conveyor belt
- Can reach further
over conveyor to apply label (though may limit speed)
- Design provides
for "tight wrap" effect around the corner
- Can do leading,
trailing, or opposing corner wraps
- Fixed distance
is not as critical

Two
Stage Tamp Type (Model 083)
The label is fully dispensed away from the backing web and held on the
pad by vacuum. A secondary wipe down roller is also mounted to the cylinder.
During the application sequence, both the tamp and roller extend to the
product together. Contact is first made by the tamp to the top or side
of the product. The tamp pad compresses causing the roller to continue
and wipe the remainder of the label. |
