The Series 30 is LSI's Value line of stepper motor labeling heads. The Series 30 can to accommodate 5" web widths, 12" and 16" diameter unwind rolls and user adjustable dispense speeds up to 400" per minute.

Field conversion kits are available to convert any Series 30 model into any other Series 30 model. An experienced technician can perform these conversions, in the field, in minutes. Custom configurations are available from the factory, to fit unusual applications. All models are available in either right hand or left hand configurations. They are designed to work with any of LSI's standard applicators.

Series 30 Motor & Control Features and Options:

Stepper Motor Drive
The Series 30 utilizes a 5 Phase Stepper Motor and onboard mounted stepper motor controller to provide maximum torque and precise speed control in a compact economical package.

A PLC is used to control all labeler and applicator functions and to generate pulses for the stepper motor controller. The PLC allows the flexibility of expandable I/O.

A bright, backlit LCD User Display allows the user to access information about the labeler. Performance Statistics gathered by the Series 30 include:·

  • A Resettable Product Counter·
  • A Resettable Label Counter·
  • Current Throughput, in Products per Minute

The Series 30 includes 10 Recipe Storage Locations for easy set-up and repeatable product change over. Recipes include storage of all labeler and applicator parameters listed above.

Remote Display Mounting Kit
Series 30 labelers are shipped from the factory with the user display mounted in the front panel. In some installations, the front panel of the labeler may not be accessible. The Remote Display Mounting Kit allows the distributor or user to mount the end user display in a convenient location, regardless of the application.

Series 30 Label Sensor Options:

Tip of Peeler Bar, Fiber Optic Label Sensor
The standard Series 30 label sensor is a fiber optic unit. The sensing end of the proprietary fibers are mounted in a block near the tip of the peeler bar, minimizing the effect of label converting variables on label stop position. This feature also allows the web advance if a label is missing from the web. The body of the sensor is mounted on the front plate of the labeling head. The body includes 10 LED's to indicate the status of the sensor. Two pushbuttons are included to change the mode of the sensor (leading edge or trailing edge) and to manually adjust sensitivity.

The standard sensor package includes an Auto-Teach feature that automatically adjusts label sensor sensitivity. Pressing a key sequence on the Series 30 user display causes an LED on the display to illuminate and advances the web automatically for 5 seconds. During this time, the label sensor learns the difference between the label and the web. When the web stops and the LED extinguishes, Auto-Teach is complete. Pressing Jog, to advance the web, ensures that label sensitivity has been set accurately. In testing, Auto-Teach accurately set label sensitivity on even the toughest labels.

Clear Label Sensor (Capacitive type)
A clear label sensor is used for labels that have no visually distinguishable leading or trailing edge (such as a clear label). The sensor works by measuring the capacitance between the sensor and the peeler bar (or any grounded surface). When the label web passed under the sensor the capacitance is effected by the amount of material present. Therefore the sensor can distinguish the difference between the label and the gap between labels. This sensor can identify the edge of a label within 1/64th of an inch. The sensitivity is adjusted by a potentiometer on the sensor body. This sensor may not be compatible with clear labels printed with metallic inks.
Clear Label Sensor (Ultrasonic Type)
An ultrasonic label sensor detects the leading or trailing edge of a label using high frequency sound waves. This sensor can identify the edge of a label within 1/64th of an inch. Label sensitivity is adjusted using the self teach feature of the labeling head. This sensor works well with clear labels printed with metallic inks.
  Microswitch Label Sensor
This package is typically used when the clear label sensor option is not practical (such as the presence of metalized inks or material).
Series 30 Web Width Options:
The Series 30 is available only as a 5" wide web version. It utilizes LSI's rugged 3 point drive and nip mounting structure, to ensure that the drive and nip rollers remain parallel, through many years of 24 x 7 use.
Series 30 Unwind Options:
12" Unwind Assembly with Single Roller Dancer Arm
The base Series 30 unwind includes 12" unwind disks, a single roller dancer arm and one idler roller. This configuration provides a short web path for easier threading. This unwind works best with relatively short labels at moderate dispense speeds.
12" Unwind Assembly with Double Roller Dancer Arm
The next step up includes 12" unwind disks, a double roller dancer arm and two idler rollers. The double dancer configuration provides a buffer between the web drive and the unwind reel. Decoupling the drive from the unwind improves the performance at higher speeds and with longer labels. This unwind is available in both 5" wide and 7" wide versions. It is standard on Models 42, 43, 46 & 47.
16" Unwind Assembly with Double Roller Dancer Arm
The 16" diameter unwind accommodates up to 80% more labels than a 12" unwind increasing run time between roll changes. The double roller dancer and two idler rollers ensure smooth operation. The 16" unwind is available in a 5" wide version only.
Series 30 Rewind Package:
Rewind Slaved from Web Drive
The base Series 30 rewind is slaved from the web drive stepper motor. The slaved rewind accommodates up to a 7-1/4" diameter rewind roll.
Series 30 Low Label/Web Break Alarm Package Option:

The Series 30 Alarm Package detects and annunciates the status of the label unwind reel and the label web. Sensors on the labeling head detect and alarm the following states:·

  • Low Label·
  • Label Out/Web Break

The alarm package includes a beacon light. The beacon illuminates to annunciate a Low Label condition (Low Alarm). The beacon will flash to indicate Label Out/Web Break (High Alarm).A photoeye located on the unwind assembly monitors the unwind reel and detects a Low Label condition. A convergent photoeye detects the presence of the web on the web drive roller. Absence of web on the drive roller indicates a Label Out/Web Break condition.

Series 30 Mounting Options:
The Series 30 shares mounting hardware, with the Series 40. Flange mounting holes on the top, bottom and side panels allow substantial mounting flexibility.
Series 30 Field Conversion Kits:

Much of the flexibility of the 30 Series is based on the field convertibility of any model into any other model.

Double Dancer Field Conversion Kit, 5" Wide
The double dancer field conversion kit includes a two-roller dancer arm and an idler roller. It can be used on both right hand and let hand heads.

16" Unwind Field Conversion Kit, 5" Wide
The 16" unwind field conversion kit includes a complete unwind assembly with mounting post, unwind roller, 16" unwind disks, double dancer arm and an idler roller. The kit is shipped as a right hand assembly. It can be field converted to left hand, if required
