Model 1500 Wrap Labeling System
LSI has supplied a Model 1500 Wrap Labeling System to a chemical manufacturer that needed to apply labels to round containers in a classified hazardous environment. The environment and products contained flammable gas and liquids under normal circumstance.
To meet the requirements for the rated environment, the labeling system featured a purge and pressurization system, utilized in the system's enclosed areas which included the electrical enclosure and operator interface enclosure. These systems are designed to prevent the accumulation of flammable gases or dust within the enclosed areas through first purging the contained air and then pressurizing the enclosure to reduce hazardous materials to a safe level. The system is capable of monitoring internal and external pressure, and shuts down system power in the event of a change in pressure.
Additional measures were taken. All external components such as motors and switches were rated for the environment and all electrical wires were run through sealed conduit. Sealed inside the enclosure, the HMI was able to be accessed through a protective plastic membrane.
The labeling system featured the standard components of the LSI Model 1500, including the Series 40 Labeling Head w/ PLC controls, tabletop chain conveyor with AC drive, dual spacer in-feed belts and a product wrap station.
