Model 1600 Front & Back Labeling System
LSI recently provided a Model 1600 Front & Back Labeling System to a manufacturer that needed to apply preprinted labels to round plastic containers.
Following LSI's standard designs, the products are spaced through the use of a dual spacer belts assembly. Immediately downstream, the product is captured under a top hold down belt. Moving at the same rate of speed as the conveyor, the top hold down belt ensures positive control of the product for high accuracy label application.
Photoelectric product sensors "see" each product and trigger the labeling heads to dispense labels. The label dispense speed matches the conveyor speed to ensure that the label transfers smoothly to the product. Front and back labels are simultaneously "flagged" onto each round product as they continue downstream to a wrap station, which finishes the label application.
Subsequent to the wrap station, a luminescence sensor is used to detect the presence of the label by way of UV coating on the label stock. In the event of a missing label a pneumatic reject station rejects the product into a bin for later reworking by an operator.
The system also features redundant labeling heads, to minimize the production downtime associated with stopping the labeling system for either material changeover or servicing.
